Thomas Rossi, Ph.D.


Dr. Rossi is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Agile Therapeutics.  Previously, he was co-founder of SansRosa Pharmaceuticals, a successful early stage dermatology technology company, and the President of R&D Excellence, LLC, a consulting practice focused on R&D productivity enhancement. He has over twenty years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, having served first at SmithKline Beecham and then at Johnson & Johnson.

At Johnson & Johnson, he was a member of the management board of the R.W. Johnson Pharmaceutical Research Institute and the Vice President of Chemical, Pharmaceutical and Preclinical Development with management and budget responsibility for the formulation, development and manufacturing transfer of multiple new products leading to successful commercial introductions of analgesics, antibiotics, topical wound treatments, contraceptives and hormone replacement therapies. These products included a transdermal contraceptive patch. Dr. Rossi also led several strategic initiatives to integrate Research & Development units and to increase productivity through shorter development cycle times.

Dr. Rossi received a B.A. in Chemistry in 1980 from Western Connecticut State University and a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry in 1985 from Texas A&M University.  He is the author or coauthor of numerous scientific publications, presentations, and patents.
