Michael E. Kafrissen, M.D., MSPH.
Dr. Kafrissen serves as medical consultant to Agile Therapeutics and is Chief Executive Officer of STE Health International, LLC. He currently serves as Director of Research and Innovation for the World Health Organization Collaboration Center at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a Research Scientist at Massachusetts Institute of Technology AgeLab. Dr. Kafrissen has over thirty years of significant experience in clinical drug development, clinical trial design, project planning and execution, research and operations planning in the pharmaceutical industry.
Previously, Dr. Kafrissen was the Chief Scientific Officer of Ortho-McNeil Janssen Scientific Affairs, LLC,
and a member of the Johnson & Johnson’s North American Pharmaceutical Management board.
His responsibilities encompassed Johnson & Johnson companies focusing on neurology, psychiatry, analgesia, anti-infectives, gastroenterology, women’s health, urology, pediatrics and cardiovascular diseases. Dr. Kafrissen served on the Board of Directors at the American Foundation for Pharmaceutical Education and was a member of the Centers for Disease Control Foundation’s Corporate Roundtable.
Dr. Kafrissen initial role at Johnson & Johnson was in pharmaceutical development where his groups were responsible for a number of novel product approvals.
Prior to joining Johnson & Johnson, Dr. Kafrissen was an EIS Officer and Medical Epidemiologist in the Centers for Disease Control’s Chronic Disease Division in Atlanta, Georgia engaging in research ranging from pregnancy-related mortality to Vietnam combat. His academic appointments have included Adjunct Professorships at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Public Health, Rutgers University School of Pharmacy, and University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
Dr. Kafrissen’s research interests include women's health, geriatrics/gerontology, pharmacoepidemiology, clinical trial design, clinical project planning and execution, and management of technical professionals.
He is author of numerous articles, book chapters, and originator of clinically related patents. Dr. Kafrissen earned his degree from Temple University School of Medicine and has a specialty in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
